Poetry Battle Friday
Explaining #PBF

Each week on Twitter I hold a poetry battle where participants challenge themselves to create a poem that must be contained to one tweet and be about the topic selected. Poems are then viewed by a panel of anonymous judges who rotate each week to select a winner. Judges focus on several components including: Twitter likes, emotional connection, topic relevance, storyline, voice, & overall effect.
The winning poet wins bragging rights for the week, chooses the next topic, and earns exposure by having their poem displayed on Twitter, Medium, Biopage, & Wattpad.
Topic posts are made on Wednesdays to allow time for composing and the actual battle post is made Thursday around 4-5pm CST & closes Friday 5pm CST, which allows for participants all over the world to have equal visibility. The winner is announced on Sunday and the winning poem becomes my pinned tweet until Wednesday so their writing can be celebrated and receive maximum exposure.
We also offer a “Give Back” program where we partner with authors/artists by showcasing their new book or creative work and providing the winner with a giveaway. This is funded by hearts like yours who have a love for supporting other writers. The link is on my Twitter bio. If you, yourself, are interested in having your book offered as a giveaway, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter: @JDGreysonwrites
As we grow, the hope is to eventually have a literary magazine partner with us to provide poets with additional publication and exposure opportunities. In the meantime, I am here to offer helpful tips behind the scenes and help provide you with much needed encouragement to help you grow.
More than anything, #PBF is a place to come enjoy poetry with other creatives, receive support, and get lost in the endless possibilities created from one word. We hope to see you there~
